The story

Our holidays in Piedmont began around 2006, where it was our interest in wine that gave us the inspiration to spend our holiday in the area of Barolo and the 11 wine towns in the Barolo area. Since then there have been many vacations and wine visits in this area. At one point we began to fantasize about a house in Piedmont, because that might just be the ultimate due to climate, food, wine, landscape and the hospitality of the local people. For a long time we just talked about it, until different circumstances made us realize that now it was time if we were to realize our dream. As said so done. We went to Piedmonte several times and looked at different properties. In the end, we ended up buying the very first property we had seen. It was in the summer of 2015.

We wanted a property with a view of the vineyards from our house, so we bought a 300-year-old vicarage situated on a 13.000 m2 large plot planted with Barbera vines. The house, or what was left of it, was completely overgrown - there were even shrubs and bushing inside the house, - so there was nothing else to do than tear everything down and build a new house in old Piedmontese style. The only thing that could be reused was the old brick. We have subsequently used the old bricks to build the ceiling in the ground floor and the rest is used as pavement on the house's terraces.

We started construction in February 2016 and decided somewhat unconventional to build the pool first. The pool was ready for summer 2016, where we then stayed in a nearby B & B and used the pool all day. It was a very good decision to make the pool first, because it made it possible to spend our holiday there from the very beginning. After all it all boils down to being in Piedmonte no matter how much money is invested in the property. In April 2017 the foundation of the house was completed plus the 25 m2 technical room. In the technical room room there is water, a toilet, washing machine and tumble dryer, so now we could have a primitive holiday with accommodation on air mattresses and use the swimming pool. We even had friends down to visit us for a whole week in the summer of 2017, where they slept in tents on the plot. It was nice luxury camping for 2 families at 25 m2. A week we will never forget!

The house was finished in July 2018 and we are now ready to live our dream in Piedmonte. We hope that all our guests in Villa Quercia will enjoy the house, the place and the pool, as much as we do.

Have a nice holiday in La Quercia.
